Autumn 2008

This year has seen many changes at Domaine des Anges, with new labels and a new website layout. We are especially happy with the new labels, the result of many discussions and debates over the past year. The drawing of our hillside with the Mont Ventoux in the background is by Giles MacDonogh, a longtime friend of the vineyard. We feel that the new label expresses the uniqueness of the site and terroir of Domaine des Anges while also managing to capture the modernity of our wines.

2007 marked the 10th harvest of winemaker Ciaran Rooney at Domaine des Anges, and it certainly was a great harvest to celebrate the occasion. A perfect Indian summer led to full-ripe flavours in all the wines, whilst cool nights allowed us to keep the natural acidity which give our wines their elegance.

We also saw the first full crop from our young plantings of Syrah in 2007. These vineyards have been cultivated organically since being planted and we are so pleased with the results achieved that we have moved from limited natural intervention in other parts of the vineyard to fully organic viticulture.

Continuing our search for new partners to spread the message of the wines of Domaine des Anges we have found distributors in three new countries; Switzerland, Luxembourg and Brazil. You can find their details on the contacts page.

The 2008 harvest is now here and after a few scares in the form of some serious clumps of rain, the important last few weeks have seen lovely sunny days and cool nights, perfect for ripening tannins while keeping the elegance of the wine.

We have been joined for the the harvest by Pieter de Waal who has been coming here regularly over the years and has seen all the progress and changes on the farm. He has kindly agreed to do a blog (www.domainedesanges.wordpress.com) to detail the trials and tribulations of harvest from an insider-outsider point of view.

So the year’s work in the vineyard comes to a culmination during harvest. The excitement builds as each parcel is picked and vinified and we begin to get
an idea of the quality of the harvest.

The heady aromas of sweet red berries and oriental spices wafting around in the winery at the moment promise another
excellent vintage of balance and complexity.

We look forward to sharing these wines with you in the near future.
