Spring 2010
Spring has finally come to Domaine des Anges, and not a moment too soon. Winter, like everywhere in Europe was long and hard, snow, then rain, then ice then more rain. All this means there will be lots of work to be done to finish pruning before budburst. The positive side of course is that the soil is now gorged with water to keep the vines going through the summer months until harvest. But that is still a long way away.
In the winery the potential of the 2009 vintage is already showing itself. The 2009 Ventoux white and rosé are both already in bottle, and the balance of the wines is superb. A combination of rich, full, almost tropical flavours (pineapple in the white and grenadine in the rosé), great length and a really smooth finish in both wine. Roll on the warmer months so that we can have even more of an excuse to enjoy these wines.
With the red wines it is a case of wait and see, not because the quality of the wine is in question, but because the cold winter has really closed them up. The old farmers also say that one must wait until Easter (the first full moon in Spring) to taste the wines of the vintage, as with the sap rising in the vines, the wines open up to express themselves.
